IN THE FIELDS

Location: Normandy, Eure

Services: Complete project

attachment (1).png

The aim of this major renovation project was to completely refurbish this former cider press, which had suffered from poor maintenance and enormous damp infiltration. We had to keep only the walls and openings, and restore light and comfort to a house with a lot of potential due to its surface area and geographical location.

The ceiling is low and the original beams have been kept, but sandblasted and repainted in light grey. The fireplace has been redesigned and reconstituted with ashlar, highlighted by a large light-colored paving.

As the window openings were very small and low, a large French window was opened on the south side overlooking the garden, to let in as much light as possible. A section of the north-east wall was transformed into a bay window with half-timbering, in keeping with the traditional Norman spirit of the place.

The first floor under the roof structure retains the same tones as the ground floor, and the half-timbering on the wall overlooking a small west-facing terrace has been opened up, enlarging the room and allowing you to take full advantage of the setting sun in the fields.

The materials and colors of mineral gray and cream linen match the thatch of the roof and the surrounding fields, giving the rooms a soft, soothing and comfortable ambience.
